Sydney Brenner

Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine

Sydney Brenner was educated in South Africa and received his D.Phil from Oxford University. He is one of the pioneers of molecular biology and spent many years at the MRC Laboratory of Molecular Biology in Cambridge working in molecular genetics. He developed C.elegans as a model organism for study of development and the nervous system and was an early pioneer in the development of the methods for new generation sequencing. He now works in Singapore on genomes and their evolution.
